Greenwashing

Greenwashing is a term that is used to describe misleading marketing in connection to a company’s attempt to seem more environmentally friendly than it really is. The company might be taking steps in a more environmentally friendly direction but in cases of greenwashing these steps seem bigger than they are. The risk of greenwashing is often seen in connection to the use of certain words such as “sustainable”, “green” and “climate friendly” but it can also be in connection to the use of certain photos, illustrations, or other things. When considering whether a company is greenwashing or not, one will consider all aspects of the marketing, including the overall impression.
